Racer or Pacer

Out in the wild on race day, I’ve observed that there seem to be two types of competitors. One is Pacerus Tacticalus, or “Pacer” for short. The Pacer is a disciplined triathlete who maintains a steady speed throughout the course—even if he is being passed frequently. His innate sense of optimal power and heart rate zones give him an uncanny ability to arrive at a destination on time. Pacer spouses particularly appreciate their mate’s attention to promptness.

The other competitor type, Chasera Maximus, or the Chaser, is a more aggressive cousin of the Pacer. The Chaser also has an innate sense of timing, but often chooses to ignore it at the first sign of “prey” in front of her.

In the world of Pixar films, Dory (“Just keep swimming …”) is a member of the Pacer family. Doug (“SQUIRRELl!!!”) is classic Chasera Maximus.

Mark your calendars for the next five months (May – Sept) for the KCM time trial Series! The event is open to all KCM members of all ages and levels of fitness at no charge. Held at the New Century Air Center in Gardner Kansas on June 15th at 6:30pm. 2 laps = about 10 miles. We will meet in the parking lot ("C2") on the south east end of the course.
